Open_Music, e.V. : Paths to Improvisation – Improvisation as Path

All too often, we learn music like a “dead language” – reading and writing are the most we expect.
What would it be like to be able to “speak”and understand our own personal musical language fluently?
What would we say?

Music is a fundamental human ability which can be discovered and developed with or without former musical experience. By means of free improvisation one can experience the original primal power of music. Open_Music offers short and long-term workshops for children and youth in which one can encounter the exciting adventure in experiments with sound and expression, free from specific stylistic and cultural restrictions.

The fruits of such encounters are musically very expressive, exciting, diverse and are enthusiastic received by audiences. The central importance of listening to one another and working together as a group is the basis for musical development in improvisation. Open_Music offers in this respect the opportunity for developing fundamental communication skills in the broadest possible sense.

Open_Music is:

- a project for the development of individual expressive abilities, for the refinement of perception and as a learning experience for creative freedom in the active encounter with music, visual art, dance and theater.

- flexible in its ability to be integrated into existing school structures as an active, direct supplement to normal music lessons. It is not limited with regard to the age, number and musical experience of the participants.

- Independent of specific stylistic expectations and can, therefore, be used as a supplement to normal rehearsal work for existing ensembles (orchestras, bands, choirs, jazz ensembles).
